Competition
What is Competition?
A Competition Routine will be created for the team by the Coaching Staff. This routine will consist of both a music portion and a cheer portion. The duration of the routine will be 2 minutes and 30 seconds; with music consisting of 1 minute and 45 seconds. Cheerleaders will perform this choreographed routine on a 54' x 42' cheer mat at scheduled Cheerleading Competitions. Materials and skills will be taught and reviewed at scheduled practices.
When & where are Practices/Competitions?
Practices will take place on Mondays & Wednesdays. They will be held at Mariner High School in Everett, WA. Competitions will be held at hosting High Schools in Washington State. Please see the main page for scheduled dates. Performance times are released to Cheer Directors a week prior to the scheduled event. Check in times will be given as soon as they are received. It is important to know that our check in time can change due to teams getting added to the competition list or by teams scratching )meaning they 'drop out'). As changes are made, they will also be communicated via Game Changer to all parents.
Do we have to be at the Competition all day?
Our team will compete in a division alongside other teams. Cheer Competitions are scheduled and organized by age/divisions. We will be required to be present at our scheduled meeting time prior to check-in until the end of the awards ceremony. Once the awards ceremony is completed, you are welcome to stay and watch other teams or head home!
What is an Awards Ceremony?
At a Cheer Competition, there will be multiple teams competing against us. Each team is judged based on an approved criteria and rubric. Teams will be placed based on their scores given by the judges. Only 1 winner will be awarded a trophy in each division. Top 3 will be recognized. Rankings are provided that evening by the judges. Information given will be an actual score with comments.
What divison will the team be competing in?
Divisions will be determined based on the ages of participants. It is not based on skill level.
What if we have vacations planned during breaks?
Attendance is very important during competition season, the team will learn a choreographed routine. Stunts will only be able to be practiced if all stunt members are present. Being absent can also effects formations, ripples and other performance factors. If possible please arrange for the cheerleader to be present at all practices. If your cheerleader will miss, communication will be required to give Coaches time to plan for the absence.
What is your process for Drop Off and Pick Up?
Before the start of practice a Coach will meet the team down stairs at the main entrance to walk them to our practice location in the MHS Commons at 5:30pm. Please do not drop off your Cheerleader more than 10 minutes before the start of practice if possible. Exterior doors remain locked at all times. If you need to enter after the start of practice time please contact the Coaching Staff directly to have someone open the doors for you.

Will my Cheerleader get to meet any MHS Cheerleaders?
Absolutely! MJC is a feeder team to MHS. We have a partnership called The Marauder Mate Program. At the start of the season your Cheerleader will be paired with an HS Cheer. Throughout the season their Marauder Mate will guide them through athleticism and leadership.
What are Spirit Pins?
Spirit Pins are a sportsmanship tool that teaches its participating members to recognize others in the sport through an act of kindness. Your Cheerleader will make and be given pins throughout the season to give out to members of other Cheer Teams at Competitions. It will help to increase your Cheerleaders confidence as well as to additionally normalize the act of positively celebrating others. Each member will receive a Spirit Pin starter kit in the beginning of each season. Each kit will consist of materials to make your Cheerleaders first batch of pins. Directions and examples will also be provided for your convenience.
How do you communicate with your Parents?
MJC uses a Communication App called Game Changer. Once you have paid your registration fee and complete your registration process you will be sent access to join your Cheerleader's Team on Game Changer. From the app you will be able to view your calendar, receive notifications of any schedule changes as well as have a means of direct contact to your Coach and fellow Cheer Families.
